Andy Warhol was not only an innovator of pop art but also a major trendsetter in the world of fashion. From his iconic grey/silver wig to his wide striped tees Warhol made a statement wherever he went. So it comes as no surprise that the Italian eyewear brand RETROSUPERFUTURE decided to once again glamorize one of Warhol’s ‘chicest’ accessories, his almost-circular sunglasses.

This is not the first time that RETROSUPERFUTURE, otherwise known as SUPER, and The Andy Warhol foundation has collaborated. In 2014 and 2015 Super and The Andy Warhol foundation came together to release a line of eclectic art-inspired sunglasses. The success of both the ‘Photo booth self-portraits’ (2014) and ‘The Illustrated series’ (2015) collections paved the way to another fashion forward partnership.

This time around SUPER is honoring the more quirky yet subtle character of Warhol. The limited edition collection of eyewear is part of the brands ongoing ‘Iconic Series’ and includes a pair of transparent acetate eyeglasses and a set of sunglasses, each presented with a unique finish by optical experts Barberini.

During his life Warhol was on a mission to bring art closer to the public and found his inspiration in the culture surrounding American consumerism. Now the public is another step closer to getting the Warhol look, and own a piece of fashion inspired by an artist who was a work of art himself.
