Paintings & Unique Prints

Beginning in the 1980s, Andy Warhol created a number of unique prints, trial proofs and paintings that stand apart for their rarity and intimate connection to his creative process.  Revolver Gallery has a large collection of them, including trial proofs of celebrities such as Wayne Gretzky, Ingrid Bergman and Jane Fonda.

The term “trial proof” refers to a print which is pulled during the printing process of an edition and altered through changes to color and/or composition. Each trial proof is unique, and time has had the effect of transforming these experimental prints that had been set apart from the regular editions into highly desirable works of art.

Warhol’s paintings, ranging from commissioned portraits to explorations of consumerism and American culture, bear a more pronounced trace of Warhol’s touch. The use of screenprinting and hand-applied techniques is evident, and they highlight his ability to blur the lines between mass-produced imagery and unique artistry,
