Deutsche Krebshilfe (or the German Cancer Society) commissioned Warhol to create Mildred Scheel’s portrait in 1980. Scheel was a German physician and philanthropist who started the Deutsche Krebshlife organization. These prints depict Scheel as both posed and calm, celebrating her status in German society.
