Friends of Tom Hayden, Santa Monica

Tom Hayden was a politician and activist, who became well-known for his anti-war activism in the 1960s. In 1982, Warhol created his Jane Fonda painting, which was published by the Friends of Tom Hayden, who was Jane Fonda’s husband. The portrait was commissioned to help fund Hayden’s political career and is reminiscent of Warhol’s early portraits of Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor.
