Frans Wyans was a Canadian gallerist from Vancouver, who commissioned and published Warhol’s Wayne Gretzky in 1984. At the time of the commission, Wyans was an art consultant who convinced a corporate client of his that getting Warhol to do a print series was a much better idea than collecting antiques. Through a mutual friend, Wyans reached out to Warhol and soon enough, Gretzky, Warhol, and Wyans met at the Factory in New York where Gretzky posed for the portrait. Warhol created 6 paintings of Gretzky and 300 limited edition prints.
