Tanglewood Press, Inc. (New York)

Tanglewood Press (not to be confused with Tanglewood Publishing, a publishing house for children’s books in Indiana) began in 1957 when art dealer Rosa Esman opened the Tanglewood Gallery in Stockbridge, Massachusetts. Esman worked with early Pop artists like Roy Lichtenstein, George Segal, Tom Wesselman, and Robert Indiana. In 1966, she published the portfolio Seven Objects in a Box, which included Andy Warhol’s Kiss, a screenprint on plexiglass positioned upright in a mount. One year later, she also published Warhol’s Portraits of the Artists as part of a portfolio called Ten from Leo Castelli, showcasing artworks by the likes of Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, and James Rosenquist.
